In our latest short research paper, we consider policy options and solutions for the building and repowering of assets across GB, Ireland, and Australia.
While technology can be uitilised to optimize renewable energy assets and extend their life, the components and materials from decommissioned assets can be refurbished, reused or recycled.
Some existing sites that are home to wind or solar assets, for example, may be identified as having potential for greater yield through repowering and improved technologies.
Importantly, making the most of existing sites prevents excessive land use and consumption. Likewise, re-purposing the various parts of decommissioned assets for alternative means follows a circular economy approach, crucial to reducing waste and environmental degradation.
Some of the data from the report comes from our ‘Renewables Pipeline Tracker’ and also our ‘Route to Ress‘ service.
